Though Kayf Tara has now been officially retired from covering duties, we still have plenty of his young stock to look forward to on the racecourse in the years to come and his current crop of three-year-olds have been in demand a Doncaster this week.
From the 15 store horses offered at the belated May Sale, 13 were sold for an average of £39,462. It was pleasing to see that Kayf Tara’s bestseller of the two sessions was a filly consigned by Mill House Stud for breeder Bunny Roberts and sold for £130,000. The bay was the top-priced filly of the sale and fourth top overall. Bought by Mags O’Toole, she is the first foal of the Listed mares’ hurdle winner Mayfair Music (Presenting), who is a half-sister to the G3 Ultima Handicap Chase winner Beware The Bear. The 11-year-old mare also has a yearling filly from the first crop of Jack Hobbs.
Venetia Williams, Ben Pauling, Paul Webber, Colin Tizzard and Anthony Honeyball were among the trainers who took home a Kayf Tara store from Doncaster this week as well as Henry Daly, who went to £65,000 to buy the gelding out of the six-time winner Lifestyle (Karinga Bay) for £65,000. Bred by David and Di Ford, the three-year-old has already turned heads in his younger days as he was crowned champion of the 2017 TBA National Hunt Foal Show at Bangor-on-Dee.
The late Dunaden had one store offered in the sale, a filly out of the listed-winning hurdler Ryde Back (Bob Back), who was bought by trainer Kerry Lee for £27,000 from Ballinaroone Stud.
