It has been an exciting week for Overbury Stud on location in Doncaster, where we picked up two TBA Awards and sold all five of our National Hunt yearlings at the Goffs UK August Sale.
Wednesday night’s awards ceremony was as much fun as ever and we were delighted to receive a first award for our up-and-coming National Hunt stallion Schiaparelli. He was named the leading British-based active stallion for individual chase winners, and this represented the seventh time in a row that we have taken home this prestigious trophy, following the long and successful reign of Kayf Tara.
We also picked up the Dudgeon Cup, awarded to Rosita Bay, who was crowned National Hunt Broodmare of the Year thanks to the exploits of her seven-year-old son Thyme Hill (Kayf Tara), the winner of six of his ten starts including the G1 Ryanair Stayers’ Hurdle at Aintree, and G1 Challow Novices’ Hurdle.
Overbury Stud also sponsored the trophy for the Leading Novice Hurdler Mare, and we were delighted to present this to Bryan Mayoh, the breeder of Grade 2 Jane Seymour Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle winner Anythingforlove.
Rosita Bay’s yearling by Jack Hobbs was withdrawn from the Goffs UK Sale, but the remaining five yearlings in our draft all found new homes.
Throughout the sale, five yearlings and one two-year-old representing the first two crops of Jack Hobbs also found buyers, selling at an average of £17,417. The top price for one of his offspring was achieved by Apple Tree Stud, which sold a yearling gelding out of the Listed-winning hurdler The Pirate’s Queen (King’s Theatre) for £40,000 to Brian Ellison. The trainer has already been responsible for Jack Hobbs’ first two-year-old Flat runner, Little Emma Loulou, who recently finished a promising fourth at Beverley over 7.5f.
