On the first night of Southwell’s new Tapeta surface on Tuesday, Cityscape’s daughter Cianciana became his latest two-year-old winner with a two-and-a-half-length strike in the nursery handicap over a mile.
Bought for just £800 as a yearling by Guy Stephenson, the Harts Farm Stud-bred filly is trained by Brian Ellison for his wife Claire and Anna Morton. Cianciana is the first winner for her dam Golden Valley (Three Valleys) and looks to be a progressive type for a trainer who is adept at getting the best out of the members of his Flat and National Hunt string.
On Friday it was great to see Freescape, now five, post his fifth victory and second consecutive win on the Dundalk all-weather track for trainer David Marnane.
This Sunday sees the return of Cityscape’s highest-achieving offspring Ka Ying Star in the G1 Hong Kong Cup at Sha Tin’s major international meeting. British-bred by Emma Balding from the first crop of his sire, the seven-time winner Ka Ying Star will be making his 37th start.
