The store sale season is now complete in Britain and Ireland, and there have been some very positive results for the Overbury sires in both countries, including a poignant Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale topper for the late Kayf Tara.
Timmy Hillman of Castledillon Stud consigned the three-year-old gelding in question, who sold for €265,000 to become the highest-priced store horse of the year. He was one of only two lots in the sale by Kayf Tara and was bought by Eddie O’Leary and Gordon Elliott. The latter also trains his full-brother, the winning point-to-pointer Romero Coolio, who was himself bought at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Festival Sale for £420,000.
Jack Hobbs also featured at the Derby Sale, where his two lots sold, a gelding and a filly, went to the point-to-point pinhookers Monbeg Stables and Warren Ewing, for €75,000 and €35,000 respectively.
At the Goffs Arkle Sale, two fillies by Kayf Tara fetched €60,000 and €40,000, sold to Ballyboy Stables and JD Moore, while Rathmore Stud consigned the only store by Frontiersman in the sale, a gelding out of the treble winner La Creole, who was sold for €64,000. A gelding and a filly by Jack Hobbs also found favour and were knocked down at €50,000 and €52,000.
Louise Kemble’s Elms Bloodstock sold the sole Kayf Tara gelding in the Goffs UK Store Sale, and the son of the four-time hurdles and bumper winner Hannah’s Princess went the way of Kevin Ross and Ben Case for £52,000. Three stores by Kayf Tara returned an average of £30,333.
Jack Hobbs was well represented in ‘Donny’, with 11 offered and nine sold for an average of £30,889, topped by Ryan Mahon’s purchase of a gelding out of the dual winner Lindeman and from the family of Denman at £50,000.
