Top-class Group 1-winning miler Cityscape is to stand at Overbury Stud next year in a deal brokered by Blandford Bloodstock.

A half-brother to Bated Breath by champion Selkirk, the Roger Charlton-trained colt, victorious at Group 1 level last year in the Dubai Duty Free where he smashed the track record, will stand for a fee of £5,000 SLF.

Bred by Juddmonte Farms, Cityscape’s career earnings totalled just shy of £3,000,000. An exceptionally consistent and tough miler, his career best official rating of 125 puts him on a par with Dawn Approach, while other new stallions for 2014, like Camelot and Farrh achieved a rating of 124, with Lethal Force on 121.

A winner at two by nine lengths, Cityscape beat 26 individual Group 1 winners in his career. He was also second to Excelebration twice last year in the Prix Jacques le Marois and the Queen Elizabeth II stakes. His other wins at Group level included the Joel Stakes (G3) by seven lengths and the Prix Perth in France.

“Cityscape is a noble horse,” said trainer Roger Charlton. “Bold, tough and brave. He’s a good mover with a wonderful temperament and he had terrific speed.”

Overbury Stud’s Simon Sweeting said: “He has the talent, looks and pedigree to be a top-class sire. Selkirk was a hugely influential stallion. I believe that Cityscape, who is a complete outcross to Northern Dancer and hails from the family of champions Redoute’s Choice and El Gran Senor, can pick up where Selkirk left off.”
