Delatite strikes at Sedgefield for impressive bumper success.
Schiaparelli five-year-old Delatite landed the bumper at Sedgefield on Tuesday by nine lengths to become his sire’s seventh individual winner under Rules.
Despite pulling hard in the early stages, the gelding continued to travel strongly throughout from a wide position and, asked to go on by jockey Will Kennedy as the field rounded the turn for home, he picked up impressively to record a decisive victory.
Second in a Towcester bumper in May, this was Delatite’s first win in four starts for John Berry. Bred by the trainer’s wife Emma, he is a son of the Desert Story mare Desiree. He has a two-year-old full-brother named Dear Alix who will go into training next season. The Berrys also have the young Robin Des Champs mare Near Wild Heaven in foal to Schiaparelli this year.
