Freescape, born and bred at Overbury, runs on well to finish third in the Listed Meydan Classic, at the scene of his sire’s greatest triumph.
Freescape, a first-crop son of Cityscape, who was successful in a Dundalk maiden in August, finished third of 15 in the one-mile Meydan Classic on 1 March. Trained in Ireland by David Marnane, the flashy chestnut was doing his best work late from a wide draw. He is out of the Bertolini mare Careless Freedom, who has since died. It was at Meydan where Cityscape himself broke the track record winning the G1 Dubai Duty Free, since renamed the Dubai Turf.
Freescape joins the Irish sprinter The Broghie Man and French miler Ballymount as one of three Stakes horses by Cityscape from 26 runners so far. The stallion sired eight juvenile winners, with a further 12 who have already been placed, making him Europe’s leading freshman sire with fewer than 50 named foals, above the likes of Farhh and Reliable Man. Cityscape’s strike rate of 31% winners/runners equalled Dabirsim in 2017 – it was also level with Iffraaj.
