Ardad has taken an early lead in the two-year-old sires’ table after being represented by two winners in the past week.

Ardisia, a £33,000 Doncaster yearling bred by Lynn Lodge Stud, got the ball rolling for his crop of 2023 when winning on debut at Musselburgh for Hugo Palmer, and he was chased home by runner-up Filly Foden, who is also by Ardad.

On Sunday, Baby Basma, trained by Ger Lyons for Jaber Abdullah, won Cork’s five-furlong maiden, also on his first racecourse appearance.

Among Ardad’s older brigade, the three-year-old Master Zack has also won in the past week, as has Dorney Lake, who is now four and a treble scorer.

Ardad, himself a graduate of the Goffs UK Breeze-up Sale when bought by Richard Brown for his owner Abdullah Saeed Al Naboodah, is well represented at the European breeze-up sales, which begin later this week. Twelve of his juveniles are catalogued for the Doncaster sale on 24 April, while there are three each in the Tattersalls Craven and Tattersalls Guineas Breeze-ups.
