Blue Collar Lad may have been bought for a blue-collar price but he is now a winner at the first time of asking, and gave his freshman sire Ardad his first winner of his stud career at Bath on Tuesday.
Bred by Classic-winning owner Phil Cunningham, the colt was bought for just 1,000gns by his trainer Robyn Brisland at Tattersalls last October but he has been quick to come to hand. He coped well with the undulations of Bath under Sean Levey, showing a willing attitude to surge ahead of the Brocklesby runner-up Wonderful World in the final furlong and outlast Muskateer Three, who also ran on the opening day of the season, and ultimately took second.
Ardad’s other runner in the race, Honorah, finished fourth, less than two lengths off the winner. The sire’s only other two-year-old representative on the track to date, Vintage Clarets, was fourth in the Brocklesby.
Ardad has four lots catalogued for next week’s Tattersalls Craven Breeze-up Sale in Newmarket.
