Schiaparelli’s Call Me Sid wins at Ludlow at 100/1.
Owner-breeders Nick and Sue Mills enjoyed a day to remember at Ludlow when Call Me Sid landed the Maiden Hurdle for trainer Jennifer Mason at odds of 100/1.
The six-year-old, who was ridden for the first time by David Bass, had previously finished runner-up in a point-to-point at Barbury Castle last January and was making just his third start under Rules.
Mr and Mrs Mills also bred Call Me Sid’s dam, the Kayf Tara mare Zolotaya, for whom this was a first winner.
His trainer told the Racing Post, “We’re a little surprised as we thought of Call Me Sid was a work in progress. We knew the ability was there but he has struggled to combine galloping with hurdling so David (Bass) has been in for some extensive schooling. He’s a big horse – his brain is a long way from his feet.”
Call Me Sid joins dual scorers Whatmore and Is She Diesel among Schiaparelli’s list of winners.
