Cityscape’s highly consistent daughter Avenue De France increased her impressive record in America with victory in Saturday’s G2 John C Mabee Stakes at Del Mar.
Bred in France by Thierry de la Heronniere and Alec Waugh, the five-year-old mare has now won eight of her 22 starts and has plumbed a rich vein of form this year with three stakes wins in California and placed finishes in the G2 Yellow Ribbon Stakes and G3 Megahertz Stakes.
Avenue De France started her career in training with Didier Guillemin in France, where she won both her first two starts before being exported to America to the stable of French expat Leonard Powell.
Her unraced dam Sharja Spirit is an Invincible Spirit to Group 3 winner Without A Fight.
Also over the weekend, Golden Horn’s Listed-winning daughter Haskoy ran a tremendous race in the St Leger, finishing second past the post but later demoted to fourth as she was deemed to have hampered Giavellotto, who was subsequently promoted to third. Haskoy’s trainer Ralph Beckett is appealing this decision.
