Perfect Power, Ardad’s dual Group 1-winning two-year-old, returned in some style at Newbury on Saturday to win the G3 Greenham Stakes on his seasonal debut in the hands of Christophe Soumillon.
Richard Fahey’s stable star had the Gimcrack and July Stakes winner Lusail and fellow two-time Group 1 winner Angel Bleu behind him in second and third when finishing his race well, ultimately putting a length and a half between himself and the runner-up at the wire.
“He’s a real champ,” said Soumillon. “He didn’t grow a lot but he has a lot of muscle. He did everything in the race professionally, he won like a very good horse.”
Bred by Tally-Ho Stud, Perfect Power, who hails from a family which includes Arc winner Sagamix as well as Group 1 winners Japan and Mogul, won last season’s G2 Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot before going on to win the G1 Darley Prix Morny and G1 Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes. He ended 2021 on a mark of 115 and has entries for the 2000 Guineas and Irish 2000 Guineas.
Ardad also had a good week at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-up Sale, with three of his offspring selling for an average of 121,667gns. He has another two colts to be offered in the week ahead at the Goffs UK Breeze-up Sale at Doncaster, where he was himself sold last year for £110,000.
