Eleven-year-old Kayf Tara mare secures third win on the Flat.
30 August 2015
On this website we’re used to chronicling the many jumps winners for Kayf Tara but it’s lovely to be able to report on a recent Flat victory for one of his offspring, especially when it’s an 11-year-old who made her racing debut when she was three.
Ragdollianna, who was bred by her owner Mrs M Newland, won for the fourth time on 26 August when scoring at Kempton over a mile and a half in the hands of Luke Morris for trainer Mark Hoad.
Having been runner-up in a junior bumper at Exeter on debut in October 2007, the hardy mare then won a bumper as a four-year-old before switching to the Flat. She won a maiden at Bath later that year and struck again at Warwick a month later.
With nine placed finishes to her name, both over hurdles and on the level, Ragdollianna had more than three years off the track from April 2011 but resumed racing in October last year. Her six subsequent starts have resulted in her most recent victory plus two third-placed efforts at Salisbury and Lingfield.
Another recent Kayf Tara winner of note is All The Answers, who is trained by Aidan O’Brien for JP McManus and won a bumper on 10 August at Ballinrobe.
Bred by Robert Waley-Cohen at Upton Viva Stud, the four-year-old is the first foal of the Grade 2-winning hurdler Shatabdi, who is a half-sister to Cheltenham and Aintree winner Rajdhani Express.
