The Overbury National Hunt sires Jack Hobbs and Schiaparelli have enjoyed a terrific week led by the Listed Mares’ Hurdle victory for Schiaparelli’s daughter Wyenot in the hands of our sponsored rider Alice Stevens.
The five-year-old Wyenot claimed her fifth win from just nine starts for Henry Daly, scoring by nine lengths at Doncaster following a victory at Cheltenham earlier in the season.
It was at Cheltenham on Friday that Schiaparelli’s lovely grey veteran Numitor notched his seventh win from a 26-race campaign for Heather Main. Now 10, Numitor has won both his starts this season and he formed part of a Friday double for his sire after the former point-to-point winner Galassian landed a first success under rules at Bangor for Mel Rowley.
Jack Hobbs has been firing in a winner almost every day this week and has had six winners from 19 winners since the start of December.
Five-year-old Jacksbar landed his first win over hurdles at Uttoxeter for Dan Skelton Tuesday followed by the Wednesday victory of fellow first-crop runner Jackeline, who also won over hurdles, for Seamus Mullins at Hereford.
I’m A Lumberjack also got off the mark on Thursday at Warwick for Alan King and the maiden hurdle winner was bred by Swanbridge Bloodstock, who also bred Jack Hobbs’s multiple-winning son Intense Approach.
A successful Saturday for Lucy Wadham included a debut victory for Jax Junior for owner-breeder Cheryl Burton. The five-year-old gelding had been placed in several bumpers and landed a good novices’ hurdle at Doncaster by ten lengths.
Not to be forgotten, Golden Horn was represented on Friday by the smart juvenile hurdler Tashan, who is now two from three in her fledgling career and followed up her win at Warwick in November with an eye-catching seven-and-a-half-length victory at Taunton for Emma Lavelle. Displaying his versatility as ever, Golden Horn is also the sire of two-year-old Nanny Park, who won a novice fillies’ race for James Fanshawe at Kempton on Wednesday.
